I keep Ruby and Reno's facial hair uncut and it lays down as it should. It does take awhile to grow out, and until it does you just have to be patient, and use hair products (suggested above) to keep the wild hairs down. My foster boy Jack, has an eye that didn't form correctly, so to help camouflage his little flaw, I cut his facial hair fairly short.
