I am so sorry for your loss. My Cali had 2 bouts of HGE. The first one I got her to the ER vet when she first started to look sick, hunched over, not eating throwing up etc. They treated her for an upset tummy and I took her home. 2 days later she was worse so I got her in to my vet right away. They tested her and she had HGE. They kept her all day and gave her IV fluids and meds. Then each night I would bring her home with the IV shunt left in and take her back each day for more IV fluids. It took well over a week for her to get better. The second bout happened a few months later and as soon as I saw the look in her eyes and the hunching over I got her to my vet. She was just starting in again with HGE. We were able to treat it pretty quickly this time. The only thing I thought may have been contributing to it was the cow hooves they loved to chew on. Even though I changed them monthly. Once I stopped giving them any type of chews or bones other than nylabones she has been fine. |
