Bubba has had HGE. About 2yrs ago, he came in from the yard and asked to go out again. Drops of blood from his bottom dripped onto the floor by the door. I called the Vet and had him there within 15mins. They examined him but didn't know what was wrong, possible HGE, possible someone threw something into the yard and poisoned him (not worms-stool had been tested)(Sissy was fine). So they kept him, started and IV in his neck, sedated him to keep him quite (someone is there 24hrs a day).
Next day he was worse, dropping hemoglobin and still bleeding. They gave him antibiotics, antifungals and plasma expanders. Next day he began to pick up a little and was doing better. They let me visit him a couple times every day and set up a chair by his cage, they would take him out, secure all his IV lines and put him in my lap and we would sit there and watch the vets and techs work. After a couple of days he stabilized and they sent him home on meds. Needless to say, Bubba loves to go to the vets and they love to see him.
