Default UPDATE ON MIKE and Romeo

Hello everyone, I wanted to update all of you on Mike and Romeo. Well, Mike came home almost 3 weeks ago. I got a call on Tue. afternoon telling me that Mike was leaving the next day. I could not believe it, because Mike can not stand at all, now. They would not get him up at all. They would every few days take him to PT. I would question them, every few days,What is the reason why he was not having pt daily, the answer was always the same, they are short staffed. I got so tired of hearing that I would run in there ever day to be there at PT time and they would have him do a few leg lifts while sitting in his wheel chair and back to his room he would go.That's is where he would be for the rest of that day and the following day as well. Out of 68 days they got him up maybe 7 times and that is it. So you can only imagine how surprised when I heard he was coming home. I was so concerned, with how I, by myself is going to take care of him. Its been almost 3 weeks now ( Wed.) and I am so busy.He is bed riddened. When Mike first came home he could not pull himself up from a lying down to sitting up position. He could not put either leg back up on the bed once lying down. I worked with him and after the first week, P.T. now comes in 2 times a week,as well. The nurse was coming three times a week to watch him closely. Last Thursday, Mike stood and transferred to his wheel chair. I work with him every few hours, and he finally did it. I did not ever think I would see that again. He could only take one step and he had to sit down. Last Tuesday he stood only 10 seconds 5 times. He has not been drained since August. I am happy, because I have no way of getting him in a car.He can not stand long enough to transfer from the wheel chair to the car.He will need to be drained real soon. He is getting bigger in the belly, but we are trying to take it off with meds without his kidneys failing, again. So far so good. Now Romeo, After many test, The vet decided Romeo has a thyroid problem. All the other test came back normal. Thank goodness. So he takes a thyroid pill two times a day. Please continue to pray for Mike, while he starts working hard to get stronger to walk so he will be able to go back to Georgetown to be reevaluated for a liver transplant.Thank you all so much.
