I don't understand why you are upset with the mother. Your son is 12 going on 13 yrs old and he should be held accountable for his actions. Does he not know that you would be upset if he were to play in the rain with his new shoes and school clothes? I'm sorry but at this age my kids didn't have "play" clothes. If they wanted to roll around in the mud with their friends they would have just called and asked me to run them over appropriate clothes or borrowed from the friend. If it were my almost teenager I would be holding him responsible for his irresponsible actions. Isn't your son in Junior High at 12/13? That is plenty old enough to be held accountable it's not like he's in 1st Grade. As for a PLAY DATE, I haven't used that terminological since Kindergarten. This is JR HIGH you are talking about.

My suggestion would be to make it clear to your son what happened today was irresponsible on his part and if he wants nice thinks that he should take better care of them. Doesn't he have a cellphone that he could have called you with if need be?
