So, it's the fact that he had school clothes and new shoes on? Does he wear a uniform to school, so it's obvious these are specifically school clothes? Or are these more dressy clothes for a private school? If not, maybe the mom didn't realize that your son has "school clothes" and "play clothes" as some people do and so didn't think it was a big deal.

My son (now 19) was always super active and was never into video games, so he was always playing outside as a kid. He played basketball or hockey in the driveway in the rain many a time and had kids stop by & do the same. I can't tell you have many times I sent kids home in a set of my son's sweats, while they carried a back of their own freshly laundered clothes home cos they'd played in the rain or especially the snow in winter, or skated on our outdoor rink and got drenched by friendly hockeystops. Maybe the mom assumed that if you'd ok'd him going over there to play, that it was ok to play in whatever he was wearing. Now, if it was lightening outside during this rain and she didn't haul their butts inside...then I'd be pissed!!!
