When we were potty training Rosie we used the potty pads while we were at work. I also bought some spray to put on them that attracted them to potty there. I am sorry but I don't remember what it was called. When I was home I started with taking her out every two hours. Even if she didn't need to go we went outside. I also praised her like crazy when she did her business outside. I even gave her a little treat! After a while, the treats were not even necessary. She just picked up to what she needed to do.
As far as being able to hold it for 5 hours, I think each dog is different. I have two girls and mine are very different. Rosie can hold it for a really long time but Mikki can not. She has to be taken out more often. It may just be that your pup needs to be taken out more frequently than the "norm". Good luck to you and remember be consistent! |
