He may be 6 months old, but that doesn't mean he knows what you want him to do. He is old enough to learn it, certainly. You have to be consistent with your routine. Same way, same time, every time. I find, when you are consistent in teaching them a routine, they generally will eventually keep YOU on that routine. I would suggest a play pen area with a potty pad away from his bed, for when you are not home. My dogs prefer to potty outside, but when I am away for extended times, or when it is raining they will use a potty pad, so I believe you can train both ways. I would suggest washable potty pads so you can reuse them. The play pen area will teach him about the potty pad for current, and later use. When you are home, feed him and take him out and don't come back in until you have seen him pee/poop. Knowing his current potty habits is very helpful in predicting his routine. Last, I would also suggest using a bell. When you take him out use his paw to ring the bell then go out and use the potty. This is a great way for him to "Tell" you he has to go. He will get the hang of ringing the bell on his own. Sorry so long. Good luck.
