Default how do you wash your washable pee pads?

Hi - I'm using washable pee pads for Gracie - love them since they're 'green' and overall less expensive than disposable. BUT - I wash them in hot water and regular detergent but the urine odor doesn't come out completely. I don't use dryer sheets as that negatively affects their ability to absorb, I think.

I've got Gracie with me in my office, still, as she doesn't have the run of the house yet. It's a small room - yikes - even though I change the pad out daily (or more often, depending on how often she pees), the smell is still there - even when I put a clean pad down. Thinking about switching to disposable but have to get a snap-down holder since Gracie likes to play with them Any ideas? I've got a front-load washer, btw. Thanks.
