I spend about $1000 a month on groceries (that includes toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc.). It does not include dining out. There are 6 of us (me, hubby, G's-20 & 13, B's 18 &15). We are stationed overseas and I do pretty much all of the grocery shopping at the commissary on base.
