No one knows if the heat caused this. Perhaps the dog had a seizure disorder that owner was not aware of which broke into cluster seizures which could cause the temperature to be that high and result in death. I am a pretty direct person so I'm sure I'd tell her what I thought of keeping the dog outside in general, and especially in the heat, but I'd be careful not to place blame on her for what may have been entirely due to fate and not neglect. It is a sad situation for her and for the dog and for you as her friend. I think your gestures to express your friendship and sympathy were very thoughtful and I'm sure she will greatly appreciate them.
