It's kind of you to want to help your friend, but when she's doing better I hope you tell her that dogs don't take the heat as well as humans. Dogs don't perspire like humans do, sweating is a very efficient way for humans to cool off, but dogs can't do this and only cool off by panting, which makes them lose lots of water, for with each breath you lose a little moisture. My guess is this dog suffered terribly before it died, and I hope you can be a good enough friend to prevent this from happening again. Very sad situation, and you will have to handle it with kid gloves.
