before you get your hands on experience, you learn. From other people who know and have experience. You learn from books, you learn from teachers, and then you watch and watch and watch some more before you ever get your hands in there to even begin to catch a baby. And before you can get a license, you have to have so many births. As a midwifery student, I have to personally deliver 50 babies and it be documented by my teacher (mentor) in order to get my license. I have to be an active participant in 100 births as well. I can't just read in the internet or ask my friends how to deliver a baby and expect to be able to.
