Sounds like your little ones were not too sure about what they should do at puppy daycare. They are kind of nervous about being in a new place. I always left my other dog home alone while I was at work. The kids would get home before me and let him out and then he would have some company. He had free run of the house so I did not feel too bad leaving him alone with just the cat. I do think it is a long day for a social animal to be alone and it must be very hard on any dog to be alone for hours at a time. Especially crated dogs.
If your fur kids start enjoying their time with the other animals you should feel more comfortable letting them stay at daycare more often. I would be concerned about what other dogs are there and how they interact with your dogs. Just as with a human kid's daycare, stop at unexpected times to see what is going on. It's a good way to make sure your pups are getting the best of care.
