This is directly from a book on my shelves "the complete book of dog breeding"

"By definition a breeder is "one who is engaged in the breeding or propagation of a specific organism."

Like I tried to elaborate on with my first post on this...just because you are a "breeder" doesnt mean you are a good one, a bad one, or whatever. There are many kinds. And yes, the best kind of breeder is one who researches and does their homework prior. But my view on what a breeder is , is the fact that it is a person who mates any two animals. It could be a one time experience, or something that takes place several times. The "kind" of breeder is a whole different story. But anyone who purposely mates animals is considered to be a breeder. We all eventually define which kind we we will be.

We have a "breeder" on our street. She raises hamsters and guniea pigs. Is she knowledgeable on what she's doing? Not really. She basically went to a pet store, bought her mating pair, and voila! But I still consider her "the hamster breeder down the street".

This has been an intersting thread and I've enjoyed everyone's input thus far.
