I know many parents who are just too busy to keep track of what is going on in their kid's lives and the only ones it hurts are the kids. The school needs to take responsibility for what is going on during the school day, but what happens when the child is at home? Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the parent to talk to their kids and make sure that they are on track with their school work, social interactions and emotional health. |
I believe that the kid and parents are responsible for their child's behavior. The school is not responsible for his/her behavior, per say, BUT if incidents happen in school, then the school is responsible for the discipline. And you are right by saying that parents are "too busy." It does hurt the child. If the child doesn't get in trouble at home, why should the child behave or respect authority at school when nothing will get done at home! And if I had children and they got in trouble, my blood would boil too!! I'm just tired of parents blaming the teachers. I am glad that the teacher in this case gave a spelling test (I've done the same thing :-). So what I asked, and am still asking

(for anyone to answer) is...if the parent doesn't care if the child keeps getting suspended/in trouble, there's no discipline at home, and the school is doing their job of disciplining, and nothing is working....what can we do at school? I'm being serious, not sarcastic

. I was on the discipline committee at my school for the past two years. I brought up this question a lot, but never had an answer. That's why I am asking here. Is there anything that administrators can do better discipline the kids? If not, then whose fault is it when the kid winds up in jail?
PS. Just to let you all know...NONE of this is to be taken sarcastically. I really would like help!

Thanks!
