I agree that what landlords are charging for pet rent and deposits has turned into a racket. It is a shame though that bad pet owners have made it more difficult for those who are responsible for their pets. In the area that I live in you cannot find anyone who will rent to someone with pets. They don't want to clean up the mess left behind by people who have let their pets pee all over the carpeting or deal with complaints of barking dogs. They just won't do it. It's a shame because we also have a huge homeless pet problem. All it takes is one experience of tearing filthy carpeting out and having to replace the floor boards to turn a landlord from allowing pets again.
