I think as long as your pup is healthy enough to handle the surgery and you have a good, skilled vet, you'll be fine. Be sure the vet has experience with smaller dogs (how big is your Yorkie?) and only uses either Isoflourine or Sevoflourine to sedate them (Some types of anesthesia can kill small dogs. These two are the safest. My vet uses Sevo).
A LOT of dogs are spayed/neutered each year with no complications whatsoever. Although death is a possible risk... it's a risk for anything that requires the animal be anesthetized (whether it be for surgery or a routine dental cleaning), and it's my understanding that it only happens a very small percentage of the time. My yorkie goes in next week to be spayed, and though I'm nervous about it, I trust my vet and know she'll be just fine.
I would consider the pros and cons of neutering your dog and talk to your vet before you decide whether to have her spayed or leaver her intact.... |
