Right. But if for some reason baby gates aren't an option, wouldn't the training be a second best solution? If you know your dog is prone to run or chase things, have him/her sit at the door, leash them up and then open the door, regardless of whether your taking them out or getting a package from the mailman. You have to do whatever it takes to keep yen safe.
