My Princess Chloe started scratching and I took her to the derm.vet and they placed her on an elimination diet, and gave her temaril-P for a short period of time. It could be food allergy or environmental (pollen and other things). Your vet. will be able to determine what's causing the scratching. Good luck!
P.S. there is a group on Yahoo call ALLERDOG, where dog owners with dogs who have allergies exchange advise and information on different allergies.
