I have had a similar situation in our school- and the principal "filed" the letter of threat, in a file that went missing... but I also had a copy, and kept notes on what I did, who I talked to, what happened to the note ect.

I ended up calling PACER, they have free legal advice, and are advocates for children in schools.

Funny, the day after I talked with the principal once again to find out if they found the missing "file".. he said they had not... I told him that I contacted PACER, and gave them all the information, and to expect a call from them.

Bam- just like that, the file was found, the kid was transfered out of that school (he had many offenses) amazing how that worked.

You can do a search on PACER they are all over.... it helped me to have them on my side... well it helped my son I should say.

Ever since then, I have always had great cooperation with the school...

Good luck, I am sorry this happened to your son- I can imagine how scary this is for all of you... please get it written down somewhere, and have you and the principal sign a note stating that if any harm is done to your child during the school year, you will be holding the principal responsible... if he doesn't sign it.. then tell you that obviously he feels that there is a problem here, and what are his plans to correct the situation, have that written down and signed... make sure you (with the first letter) sign and date it, and state that you read this to the principal and he refuses to sign it, on this date at such and such time... and have the principal sign that part (that he refuses to sign the original note) maybe it is over the top, but there is a HUGE responsibility on the principal to ensure that the school is a SAFE place for EVERYONE... it is his JOB and if s/he isn't able to make school a safe enviornment for all, s/he needs to find a new job.

This has to be taken seriously- we (in our small neighborhood) recently had 4 student boys put a bomb in this girls family van because they were upset at her for being a tease... fortunatly no one was hurt, (the van wasnt' even recogonizable though) the family moved the girl out in the middle of the night after that... this was not a do it yourself bomb they found out how to do on the net... we have NEVER had anything close to this happen in our neighborhood and it shook us all up (including our houses) our neighborhood is very quiet, I have not even seen a cop around in a long time, because nothing happens around here. The girl did go to the principal before this incident and let the principal know the boys were threatening her... nothing happened to the boys for the threats... except for now, they are in jail. (because of the bombing)
