Some dogs are very sight driven. I have noticed when walking Hans that if my Husbands car was parked in a different place in our driveway, Hans would immediately turn around and want to go back in. If there was ANYTHING out of place in our front yard...he would turn around and want to go back in. He would then go to the back door and ask to go out.
By the same token, if anything was out of place in our backyard i.e. patio furniture moved around, BBQ lid up, garden hose out...you could forget about him going outside. It took him over a year to get pass this and sometimes he still does it.
That having been said, it does sound like it could be a medical condition. They get gas and cramps at times too.
