Personally, I think you should cut your losses, forget the papers, and keep him as a pet. And pray she doesn't try to sue you to get him back or make you pay 1800. If you have no written contract and didn't pay for him in the first place, it can be difficult to prove he's yours and not hers. But after 3000 in vet bills I think you should get to keep him!
