I just wanted to mention a couple of stories I've run across. One is of 58,000 dogs being killed in Baghdad over a 3 month period, either through poisoning or shooting. This happened last year. What's really surprising is that Baghdad apparently has no animal shelters. While not like a Western city, Baghdad is a modern metropolis.
The other is about dog roundups and mass killings in China. These stories are from the early 2000's and involves hundreds of thousands of dogs in just a limited area.
This just leaves me a little speechless and I wonder how much stories like this are routinely repeated around the globe. We're far from perfect here (okay, it's shameful here), but geez...some of these folks are brutal. What an eye-opener.
