I think they would have had better luck convincing the jury if they had taken the death sentence option out and just left in life in prison without possibility of parole. They interviewed one juror on Primetime Nightline, and she basically said that she couldn’t have ANY doubt since it was a death sentence, for if she did convict an innocent women she’d be no better than her. I’m not sure if the juror realized that the sentencing part would have come next, and they probably wouldn’t have given her death, but she just didn't think there was enough proof for death.
