I was also wondering if he could have gotten over heated from our walk @ 5:00. I usually carry him most of the way one way as he tricks me into it, lol. With hubby he won't act up.

I personally prefer checking the gums .. and, that is what my vet taught me long ago.
It honestly did not sound like he had overheated. They will pant like crazy and feel very hot when you touch them, especially their ears. It's pretty unmistakable.
Happy to hear that he is better today!
