My Gia didn't have littermates so she didn't learn that she couldn't bite hard. When I first got her she would play bite and it was pretty rough. I finally figured out that if I yelped (LOUDLY!) when she bit me it would surprise her and she'd come back towards me and gently lick my hand instead, as if to say "Is this ok?"

Now even when we play around she won't bite down. She just grazes my skin with her teeth, but no pressure whatsoever.

I will admit that if you're in public it's embarrassing to yelp! LOL! But well worth it in the long run. Good luck and let us know how you do!

I do the same thing, only I just say OWE!! In a high pitched voice.. which actually comes pretty naturally when I'm being hurt lol.. but anytime Kizzie gets too eager in her play biting and I cry out she stops right away.. I also redirect like another poster said by giving her a toy to chew instead of my fingers.

Your bigger dog will correct her in the same way, by yelping, barking or biting back, if they are friends and are well adjusted he will understand she is small and to be gentle when correcting her. I would supervise her though just to be on the safe side..
