We started Deuce off on washable pee pads and then began training him to go outside. He would use the pee pad if we missed his cue to go out. We would not scold him. Well we had it in a convenient location so he would use it when he wanted. At about a year old we removed the pee pad and put it downstairs in the furnace room and continued to take his cues to go outside. Now he just uses the pee pad when it is raining or if we miss his cue to go outside. This is exactly what we wanted to accomplish with him. I like having a plan B for him when the weather is bad. We use washable pads and I have about four that I rotate.
