How does the swelling looks today?
I wonder if you should have your regular vet take a look today while you are waiting to see the specialist. It's a tough call, especially because of what you indicated last night that you don't have 100% confidence in any of the vets you have tried. Plus, you don't want unnecessary treatment or the wrong treatment.
If you do see a regular vet today or tomorrow, he/she should be understanding that you intend to see a specialist.
