I have never used plastic bowls, and I switched their food a couple of months ago to Nutro Natural Choice-Grain Free, they love it, but it didn't help with Roxi's scratching. She also bites at her feet constantly, I used to think she was really picky about her nails, lol, but her groomer thinks this is also a fungus type problem. In the research I have done, it says to give them 1/4 teaspoon a day, and it should be extra virgin coconut oil. She loves it, and licks it right off the spoon. It does say you can rub it on the affected area ie. pads of their feet, but I have not tried that yet, she would probably just lick it off!
This is day 3 and yesterday she only had 1 scratching fit, and so far none today. I'm praying this is the answer, poor girl looks so miserable when she's scratching her face.
