I had to be very careful about giving advice. I didn't think the puppy would survive. She couldn't even walk well when they got her. Now, four years later, my son and daughter-in-law are divorced and he has the dog, who is healthy, thank goodness, but is not potty trained and is staying with me since my son started having asthma attacks. I talked him into getting her spayed and have him convinced that finding her a new home would be the best thing for him and the dog. My 14-year-old granddaughter is going to be very sad, but I think it's the best thing.
All you can do is be there and be available to help when the opportunity comes along. I'm sure the dog will help your neighbor and will bring her joy in the midst of her illness. Try not to be too hard on her ... I've never dealt with cancer, but it has to be very difficult. Will keep all of you in my prayers.

I try to be "gentle" with my words. She is a wonderful friend and neighbor and she has gone through alot lately. I will ALWAYS be there for her. Her and her husband are SO excited about their new fur baby, as I am excited for them. I just wished she had done research on the breed before they bought him. Then again....she has a very strong will and it probably wouldn't have made a difference. I am more concerned about the neighbor that got the smaller of the two and has 3 young children. I have a 3 yr old grand daughter and she tries to pick up my two. Sadie, the 6 1/2 lber, runs from her but, Lillie, barely 5 lbs, cowers down when she goes up to her. She tries to pick her up and she squeezes her...she doesn't mean to hurt her but she does. I just hope to GOD nothing happens to these pups...makes me sick to my stomach to think they could get stepped on and hurt badly. Or worse!
