I am a local tour guide - so this is how I know all this silly history, LOL. And speaking of Gone with the Wind, Rhett Butler was given his name after Colonel William Rhett - the scourge (sp?) of the Pirates - he captured Stede Bonnet, the Gentleman Pirate and had him and 29 of his men hanged here on the peninsula in 1718.
Rhett Butler's character was given after another Charleston man, George Walton Williams - a blockade runner! | WOW! if I ever make it down to Charelston, I wanna go on one of your tours! |
