I think we can thank celebrities for making the world think that all Yorkies and many other toy breeds are supposed to super tiny. In part anyway. Of course they are cute, and look like a puppy their whole life. But I don't see how that breeding for super tiny can be healthy. I saw a Yorkie on Oprah last year that was around 1 pound, I think. It looked so fragile, and sickly.
Personally I love my 10 pound Lucy that I rescued last month. She is just about perfect. She is funny and snuggly and sturdy and well, just great. And she can jump around and play like a crazy girl and not break. She has really blossomed since we first got her.
I have a friend that breeds toy poodles and she does get great prices for her tiniest ones. She however breeds for health and personality first and foremost. And all of them under a certain size are never ever bred. Just way too dangerous for them. |
