Yes..thanks for more info. Puts a new light on things..LOL
What can you do?..it is a terrible situation. I would take a stand when talking to the friend about her future MIL...I would not talk with her about it, unless talking changed things.

Let me explain...I have had other breeders call and want me to listen to their problems..I am willing to listen, but when they turn around and allow the same things to happen over and over..all I can do it tell them I will be happy to help them change the on going problem, but I won't be an ear when they refuse to do what is right.
By listening and offering advise that is never taken only makes me a part of the mess.

It is so wrong to use a male for breeding with health probelms. You might contact AKC about this and tell them they are not careful with who sires who..might do nothing, might get an inspector out and scare them at least.
You can write the breeders vet and inform them of the problem...might stop the vet from referring puppy buyers to them..does the vet know they use a liver shunt stud?
You bring up a common situation among unreputable breeders..many show a nice, small male as the sire when actually a bigger, lesser quality was used..especially if a tiny male is hard to breed. That is one reason I tell people not to get caught up in pedigrees..or pay alot for a certain pedigree unless the breeder is top of the line in reputation.
