I went to my local pet store to get Solid Gold S.E.P.. An employee who'd helped me previously with this issue said she was surprised that the habit was still there, after forbid, pineapple, and the pumpkin. She asked what I was feeding her (Innova Evo turkey and chicken small bites), and suggested I try a new food before the S.E.P. She kindly gave me some samples of Solid Gold just a Wee Bit (I bought the S.E.P., just in case). There was no poop eating while trialing the samples, so I went back and picked up a bag. There have now been two weeks of no poop eating. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is IT. |
One of the major causes of poop eating is undigested protein left in the feces. If a dog smells protein, he'll eat it. This is the reason, certain treatments work; they have enzymes which help digest the protein, so that there is no undigested protein in the poop. Some dog food use poor quality protein that is hard for dogs to digest. While you can trying adding pineapple which “tenderizes” the protein, my first choice would be to change foods.
