A couple of years ago, I bought my girls a little baby pool, thinking that they would be nice and safe and be able to play in the water. I added a couple of inches of water to it, and they proceeded to DRINK out of it
They wouldn't go INTO it, though:P Little stinkers! I say spend as little as possible until you know whether they'll like it or not.
