Memorial Day was even worse as the temp in our house went up to 86 degrees. Needless to say, I did not walk them that evening as we had all been really hot all day.
What is everyone's cut-off point for an evening walk after the sun goes down? |
I am wondering that myself. Being a dogwalker, it concerns me.
On Tuesday, I took Jackson along with me to go walk my dogs, like I do a lot of times. It was about 95 that day (record temps for MD in May!) but with the humidity, it was probably more like 100.
As I was walking the Rottweiler and Jackson, Jackson pulled me straight towards the water (we walk around a pond) and he just laid down in it, LOL. The water was disgusting but I just let him since he obviously was REALLY hot. The Rottie also was REALLY slow moving so we only did one circle around the pond whereas usually we do 3. I just could tell they couldn't take anymore (and neither could I!!!)
So I left Jackson at home yesterday. I've rarely seen him just completely stop like that on a walk. He is definitely a winter dog. In the summer, the only way he enjoys being outside is if there's water or a pool nearby, or lots of shade.
