Gotta be really careful with the pets. Some friends of mine live in AZ, my home state minus the military life, and they are avid hikers. They always take their dogs with them. This time though, their dog Maxx (a shepherd mix) had too much heat, even though they stopped regularly and he drank often, and they were hiking in October not summer time. Anyhow, poor Maxx died due to heat exhaustion...the vet told them his insides literally liquefied. They now don't don't their animals hiking anymore and are still heartbroken.
I keep my dogs inside as much as possible...that horrified me.
