If all breeders would follow the basic recipe of the breed standard the yorkie breed would not be so duilted with so many different looks and sizes. Instead too many breeders breed whats cute or the flavor of the month.
When one decides to breed "because they can" most do not consider the worthiness and or overall quality of the stud/bitch. Without sound reason or knowledge they breed because "oops my dog got my girl" or "demands from family members wanting a free puppy" or "it would be fun" or and I love this one "we can't afford to buy another so we thought we would breed her so we can have another puppy" The dogs more often than not reflect only a gimmer of the standard, they sell the remaining pups on the open market with full registration allowing yet another "because they can breeder" to reproduce, watering down the standard recipe, until it turns bland.
The standard "recipe" was created for all to follow when breeding responsibly "the standard yorkie" not to strive for a tea cup, baby doll, doll face, teddy bear nor exclusively a show yorkie. All purebreeds were developed using a specific recipe, something like you omit the flour your cake will never rise or the further you deviate from the recipe you have your own creation.
