PS Thanks for all the replies! As I stated in my first post...I was just looking around. I have NO intentions of getting another dog right now. Not until I move (which won't be for awhile). I like looking at all the cuties. And when I saw the description, I had to know what they meant!
You are doing exactly what I did! It is very smart imo!

I purchased my first little boy without knowing a lot about the breed, but I just knew I had loved yorkies all my life and had had other breeds (mostly poodles and shepherds), I knew they could be hurt by small children so I waited until my kids were all teenagers. I wanted him on the smaller side, not super tiny but small and I wanted Personality Plus.....I got my Hefner. The breeder called him "Lil Soldier" because of the way he marched around the room and acted all macho! He is not perfect and some breeders have told me they do not like his "look" at all, but I love him to death...he is definitely my "babydoll"...has a tongue that doesn't stay in and is long like a gecko!! And the sweetest most perfect personality you could ever want...a bit stubborn, but not a mean bone in his body and can he kiss???? Woooooo! Loves all people and all dogs and wants to say hello and play with EVERYONE!! He does not discriminate!

But, he has faults according to show breeders and the "standard". He has a cotton coat, he has a lot of silver in his coat, he doesn't have a perfect dead level topline (across his back). His eyes are on the small side and he is only 4 lbs.

While my idea of my Dream Puppy (looks wise that is) is not the YTCA breed standard, after owning yorkies for a while and seeing all the different ones at my meetups and here on YT, I started to realize what "look" I liked.

When I decided to get another puppy I had a very specific idea of what I wanted and I was willing to wait and not buy on impulse until I found her. Heres is the description I wrote down.....not everyone's will be mine of course because everyone likes certain things that are different:

A Healthy (always the first and foremost priority), smart, tiny (under 5 lbs as adult) female with a baby doll face (short snout), small, well set ears, big, but not too big (not bulgy) eyes, short, compact (cobby) body, full, silky, black coat and an amazing, spunky personality with attitude.

It took me about 6 months and I looked at a lot dogs, went to yorkie shows, saw show quality dogs, talked to all kinds of breeders and I found her and she is everything and more than I imagined. I got her from a breeder with 30 years experience in breeding the "look" I like and Ava is tiny but healthy as a horse...eats like there is no tomorrow, has never had a low blood sugar episode, has never even thrown up (she is 8 months old) is smart as a whip (learned to sit in one five minute session)...lol...she is ruled by her tummy so she is alert when there are treats around and she will do "anything" for a treat!! Loves to please too. The breeder had her almost 100% peepad trained when I got her at 11 weeks and she put my others to shame on her first day home.

She, however, is not "perfect" either. She is a living, breathing being and her back legs are slightly longer than her front. She had a corneal ulcer from a vaccine when she was three months old and has a scar on her eye now. Do I love her any less...no way! Is she what everyone likes?....no .....and she has been critized by those who follow the breed standard. Does that bother me? No way...I am not a breeder and I don't show my dogs. They are service animals so my reasons for wanting small and smart and great temperaments as my priorities in a dog are understandable.

The reason I stated that I am not a breeder is because I have been criticized by breeders for posting in this section without stating that I am not a breeder so I try to remember to make that disclaimer now.

I feel very comfortable posting here on threads on issues that I feel I have knowledge about and make no apologies for it. I do not feel that just because I am not a breeder that I cannot learn about the breed and pass that knowledge on to others. I respect and have learned a lot from some of the breeders here. And....believe it or not.... I have actually found info that some of the breeders have found helpful too and that they did not know so it is definitely a two way street.

I just appreciate so much the open minds on here and the willingness to listen to all viewpoints without unnecessary negativity.
