As our previous Yorkie got older, it was harder for her to keep up when we went on long walks with our other dogs. My solution was to get a "pet pouch" so I could carry her but still have a hand free to hold a leash for another dog. But it had a very unexpected side effect. Note the position of the dog's head in the picture below. This is not a picture of me, but I had the pet pouch adjusted so that Tina's face was at about the same level - meaning her head was just about even with my, um, chest.
The first day I carried her this way, the first person we encountered on our walk was a 30-ish young man who obviously LOVED yorkies. He came running up, gushing at how cute she was, grabbed Tina's face in both hands and started kissing her. Normally, this would be ok, both with Tina and with me, but having a strange young man's hands and mouth suddenly within an inch of my breasts was a shock, and rather disconcerting to say the least!
I gradually became more accustomed to people seemingly grabbing at my chest to pet Tina, but it did take some conditioning on my part to realize they were reaching for her, not me! |
