I know what you mean about one incident and then it takes years ago correct.
An acquaintance of mine brought her child over to see me (and Cricket). Cricket liked the child at first. Then the child decided to hit Cricket repeatedly w a plastic bottle. The parent did nothing to step in. I stepped in and grabbed my dog, but it took years for Cricket to start trusting children again.
