Gizmo use to poop and pee in his crate (will still pee in it every once in awhile) but it's because he was a BYB/Puppymill dog. One thing that really helped was that we put in there is blanket that he sleeps on at night. He doesn't like to make a mess on his Pooh blanket, so therefore we come home to a clean crate and puppy. We also leave his favorite toy skunk in there as well as a kong with a treat in it. Also, make sure you're making the crate a form of training, i.e. when he goes in put some treats in there.
