I'm a military spouse and I have flown with a pet (21 pounder) from Europe back home stateside. The vet gave a tranquilizer for the long flight, he went under the plane as the same rules apply on trans-Atlantic flights as Hawaiian flights. He was fine upon arrival, no issues or noticeable problems with his flight in the belly of the plane. I too worried about the stories I had heard of dogs passing away due to being left underneath the plane in the summer for too long. The airlines assured me if there were any unexpected layovers or plane issues the pet would be brought off for safety. They also told me that pets could not fly in the extreme summer though. So if you are flying july/august time frame I would suggest maybe leaving baby with someone until the weather cools, or going earlier?

Anyway, I hope this helps in some small measure...Good luck!!
