Purebreds are as responsible for (or more responsible for) puppy mills than mixed breds...including "designer mutts."
Mutts - designer mutts - and purebreds can also come from good, pet-loving homes.
If I remember correctly, I have seen darling little puppymill dogs tagged as a "lab mix" in puppy stores. The prices were lower than purebreds - but they were still puppymill dogs. I tried to stop this thread from turning into a "puppymill" issue. I thought it would be interesting to just see different reactions to these new little puppies that are mixed breeds.
Of course, puppy mills jump on anything that might bring in a profit. This is something we all hate - mainly because of the lack of care and lack of loving attention these little dogs get. They are just breeding stock - nothing more. It is horrible.
Guess we can't talk about puppies - without talking about puppymills. They are always lurking in the background, aren't they? This is unfortunate.
Breeding dogs, in itself, is always a questionable issue. I know you won't be surprised at how many well-meaning people have said to me, "Oh, why don't you breed your Yorkie - you could make some money, you know." Unfortuately, this is a concept often help by the general public - not just puppymill facilities. And, alternatively, a lot of healthy little pets that are sold to good homes do come from people like me....purebred or not.
I am not going to breed my little guy. He's getting neutered as soon as he is old enough. Every pet I have ever owned has been neutered or spayed...including most of the men and women in my family at some point. We like it this way!
