She said she is going to do a urine sample to see if there is any blood or crystals in her urine, but other than that my only option is to do an ultrasound, which will cost about $325!!!!! I am just so confused?!? The other vet saw the stone with the ultrasound.....is it possible she passed it????? I really do not know what to take from this right now......
Well, I suppose it's possible she passed it but if it was something causeing "little drops or urine" for a day or so there, idk. The vet I worked for had an ultrasound machine, but i really don't ever even remember him using it to check for bladder stones. We always did a cycto. for a urine culture and xrays. If the culture showed and issue and we saw even something small on the xray he would sometimes try the rx diet first then re-xray and do another culture. BUT, if they was ever an issue with straining to urinate, or anything large or if there were many stones on the xray he did the surgery. So, idk, I guess it depends on the vet and how they proceed. I'd for sure do the urine culture by cycto (they use a needle to draw urine from the bladder so it's sterile and the results are more accurate) and go from there. If there is any straining at all, I'd want the surgery. Also, reading ultrasounds is tricky business - my old boss did training with his with a specialist from the company he bought his from once a week for like 6 months after he got the machine, so i supose it's possible the first vet saw something else on the ultrasound? Idk, if it was my dog, I don't think I'd dish out another $325 for an ultrasound right now, I'd rather they just re-radiograph in a few days. I'd do the urine culture now and continue with any meds prescribed. If it happened again (the drippy urine) I'd 100% insist on the surgery, but listen to you're vet, i'm just an ex -tech lol who's been through this with a male cat and seen it done quite a bit.
