I really think that this topic should be separated out into it's own Category. Where there could be a sticky Resource Thread, and where people who had their animal lost or stolen, could post an ongoing dialog for that event. |
The reason the reference threads are closed is so that members make us aware via PM if something new should be added. If it was open, and members replied over and over - what's meant to be a reference thread will then become 20 pages - and this is not conducive to people when they need only pertinent information.
If we separated each topic into it's own category - we'd have a thousand categories. That's why we don't do this, and instead have the Library (and also why we do the most important resource threads not only in the library - but they are *also* stickies; that said, we can't make everything a sticky).
As for people who have lost a pet as you mentioned, they should start an individual thread in the General section where it would get the most attention.

Important reference threads are in one place - the Library. And like I mentioned, we then also sticky some threads in the correlating section.
I would have to disagree that people here forget about how desperate people are when they have any sort of emergency. I see the contrary
