Another *wonderful* place to donate is Noah's Wish. This is a charity who goes to natural disasters in the U.S. and Canada - equipped to rescue lost/abandoned pets and reunite them w/ their families. The played a big part in Katrina and other disasters. It's one of my favorite charities:
