I don't think you are horrible ~ sounds like THEY are being horrible! Lucy sleeps with me but if she was waking me EVERY night ~ then that would get old fast. My bed is so high off the ground that she can't get up or down without help.
She still has those rare nights when she whines to get down (I THINK she's going to find a toy or bone) then wants back up; then down, etc.
Do what you have to do so that EVERYONE can get some rest.
