Lizzy,
Have you considered adopting a yorkie from the rescues? I'm with Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue. We have many Yorkies available, all over the country. Go to
www.ytnr.com. There are rescues listed there, and if there aren't any shown in your area, there are many more that haven't been posted as of yet. E-mail one of the state directors, whose e-mails are on the website and you can fill out a form that will let you know when there is one near you.
Be very careful buying from a breeder you haven't heard of. I bought three from a seemingly knowledgable breeder, but they all have many health problems, and I paid A LOT for each of them. Yorkies can have all kinds of health problems, so watch it...there are tons of bad breeder, puppy millers and backyard breeders out there, especially in the Midwest. You can research a newspaper ad or breeder at nopuppymills.com, look at the AKC suspended breeders list. Also, AKC has some breeders listed. A show breeder is best, since they know what to look for and are held accountable by other breeders on the show circuit.
Rescues have some wonderful dogs, adults and pupppies. Some are special needs and some just need a new home after a pet parent has died or become ill or moved.
